Default ad links to product in old site--how to link to new zen site?

    Hi,

I am going to try and explain this so as not to be confusing:

I have an existing site in which the shopping cart does not work, so I built a new site with zencart (which is wonderful BTW). I am planning on disabling the old site and using the domain name for my new zen shop. Therein lies my issue. One of the products from my company got a great review on MSNBC and they have a link in the review to the page in my old site where the product is featured. I have a lot of visits from that review, and I was wondering if it is possible to include that page somehow in my new zen site without messing up anything. I know that I could ask MSNBC to update the link, and I will try, but I don't think that route is going to happen.

I would appreciate any feedback. I am really just a beginner when it comes to all of this.

    Thank you.

A 301 redirect for the old product page address to point to the new one may do it. You should be able to google for exactly how to make the redirect.

    A link would help.
Depending on the original link you could choose ez pages or define pages. Or is it a product?

Hi thanks so much for the suggestions. I will try the 301 reroute and post how it works out.

I have also moved my site and have links to my old store out there. I am trying to Redirect 301 within Zencart to redirect each product on the old store to the same product on my new store. When I put the Redirect 301 in the htaccess file in the cart area, my cart won't show at all. My question is: Are Redirects in zencart different than regular redirects?

Thanks very much for any help.
    Teresa

An example of old link and the new link would help.

I figured it out. I was putting the Redirects in the cart htaccess instead of my main htaccess. Now it works,

    Hi,

I tried the 301 redirect and created an .htaccess file in the root with the following:

    redirect 301 elementalsoapshop.com/site/herbal-shave-p-15.html http://elementalsoapshop.com/index.p...&products_id=3

Let me give a little more info however:

My old site (www.elementalsoapworks.com) is now forwarded to look at the new site (www.elementalsoapshop.com). So, both domain names www.elementalsoapworks.com and www.elementalsoapshop.com both look at the same site. I tried to use elementalsoapworks.com/site/herbal-shave-p-15.html in the redirect the first time, but also to no avail. Does anyone have any idea what's going on with this? I am a newbie and am not sure if I put the right info in the redirect or if the forward is complicating things.

    Thanks!

    Ok try this http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpo...50&postcount=6

You will need to change your admin page not found setting from index page to 'Page Not Found'
