I spent many long hours a couple of years ago trying to figfure this - to no avail.

I stuck with the default of 80px.

At that time, I spent 3 hours reading through the IH support thread

These days you'd need 6 hours!

I needn't to reed the IH support threads,
I use 2 hours to the zen-cart course code ,and now i find the answer .

That is O.K,
"New Products" and "Featured Products" work now.

So, in other words, you are saying that ALL the default small image sizes need to be changed? Change ALL settings that are 80 X 100, to 90 X 120 ???
