AUSTPOST IMPROVED and GST

Me again. Got to get to the end of this thing!

I can't work out how to make GST only work for Australian orders. At the moment GST displays for all the countries in the world inc. Australia.

I have set up 5 zones in admin: Locations / Taxes / Zone Definitions



Only Australia has a Tax Rate setup (at 10% - in Locations / Taxes / Tax Rates)

It's all a bit strange. Something stupid I've done I guess.

(BTW, the Zones 1,2,3,4,5 are the old Aussie Post zones and I can't get them out of my head after all this time.)

I can't really help with the question of zones and GST in general, but as for the AustPost module, the 'GST' setting does nothing more than reduce the quotes by the GST amount, so that the results are correct when the GST is re added as a result of your store tax settings.

This means that if you enable GST in the AustPost module, but your zone/tax settings *aren't* correct your postage quotes will be too low.

Not sure if this info helps or not.

I seemed to have worked out what is happening. I think it is a small but UNIMPORTANT...er...bug (!).

I was testing things by logging on as an Aussie, and changing the BILLing address to one overseas - without logging out first. This has the effect of still displaying the GST for an overseas billing address. Since it is unlikely to happen in reality, I guess it's not worth fixing.

I suppose I can think of a scenario where this might happen in real life, but it would be fairly rare, wouldn't it?

If it is a taxation bug it probably needs to be reported to the zencart team.

If it's an AustPost only bug then it is something I'll probably need to look into.

Rare enough to not have been observed before.

The hardest part to fixing bugs is identifying and replicating them. My previous post details the AustPost's module involvement in regards to tax's and zones, so if you can use that information to let me know if it is _postage cost_ related problem I'd be willing to look further into it, else, as I said, the zencart team need to know about it.

ps. Further updates to the Austpost module have been temporarily postponed due failure of a RAID array. It could take me weeks to recover lost data (assuming recovery is possible). <sigh>
