Sorry the product was not found

I know I am missing something but can't seem to find it.

When there is an outside link calling for a nonexistent product.

All I get is a center window saying "Sorry the product was not found".

I understand that featured and special boxes/windows should also show.

This is my settings in admin to display added information in the error product not found window.
But none of these boxes show.

I do have featured products showing on the main page and also specials

Index Listing
Show New Products on Main Page - Errors and Missing Products Page = 0
Show Featured Products on Main Page - Errors and Missing Products Page = 2
Show Special Products on Main Page - Errors and Missing Products Page = 3
Show Upcoming Products on Main Page - Errors and Missing Products Page = 4

Any ideas where or how to fix.
