Shipping state/province

I want my customer to be able to buy in US, but ship in France.
In the change the shipping address option, I have State/Province as a *required information field. There is no state or province in France so I cannot go through (I was making a test).

How do I deal with that ? Anybody had the same problem ?

I have the same problem. There are many countries that do not have a state field - France, Brazil and many more but the state field is always required. Many customers are complaining that they can not complete their orders.

Since most of my business is in United States, I must configure state as required, and use drop down, but I need a solution for my international orders.
