help question Resetting Database before going Live ?

I know how to reset The Admin Activity Log table.

But before going live, after numerous mock transactions (for testing purposes), I would like to reset the transactions database as well - if not for the feeling of cleanliness, then simply for IRS purposes (who needs fake transactions in the database?) ...

I noticed that Admin > Tools > Store Manager contains some provisions for that but I couldn't find much documentation about the various functions there.

For example, I can see a Reset Current Order ID button and even some reference to "Test Order ID". But I couldn't find information about the Update Counter button: counter of what?

Also, after I reset the current order id, does that mean that I will no longer be able to do test transactions?

    Thanks,
    Daniel

    1. Manually delete your test orders.
    2. If you don't like the "number" of the last order you placed, you can set it a new, higher, number using the Rest Current Order ID option you mentioned. All new orders will start from that new number you set.
    3. The Update Counter option resets the counter shown on your admin home page -- that number is incremented on every visitor that hits your storefront.
    4. A "test" transaction is just like any other transaction, except that you, the administrator, won't be filling the order. You can place test orders any time you like.

DrByte, as always you are so helpful. Thank you for your answers. Answers 1-3 were very clear. I am not sure though what you meant in answer 4 by:
A "test" transaction is just like any other transaction, except that you, the administrator, won't be filling the order.
When I placed the mock transactions, I created a fake test "customer" (with own email address, etc.), I didn't place orders as administrator.

Is there a way to place (test) orders as administrator? (if so, I didn't know about this or how to do this)

    Thanks,
    Daniel

By "administrator", I meant *you* ... the store owner ... the one who processes orders and could choose not to ship the order because it was ... well ... only a test.
