Default Is it possible to password protect certain items?

I run a wedding videography business and I would like to offer my clients the ability to buy additional copies of their wedding video after the fact. The problem is that I don't want just anyone to be able to buy a particular product.

In the photography world, this is typically accomplished by handing out business cards at the wedding with a password on it. When the customer logs onto the website and enters the appropriate password, they can order prints.

Is something like this possible with Zen Cart?

Zen-Cart does not provide authentication over products yet. However, as an alternative suggestion, why not convert / save directly these videos under WMV with a required license involved ?

Most professional companies are beginning to expand with this amazing technology as, more than 3/4 of them, requires remote connecting with the right login and password info in order to see their videos.

Meaning, you could easily do the same as you could specify, on each of these products on which you decide to protect, a bolded note that the selected products are authenticated.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I'm not selling online versions of their video. I'm selling physical DVD's in Amaray cases so your recommendation wouldn't work.

You gave me the answer I expected, however. I've yet to find a cart that supports this.

Two years have passed so I thought I'd revisit this question.

I am a wedding videographer and I sell physical DVD's to clients. I would like to be able to pass out cards at the reception inviting all the guests to come to my online store, enter the "password" for the event and order copies of the DVD.

I do not want just anyone to be able to order the video -- only people who attended the event.

Is this yet possible with zen?

Far as I know, there's no way to do 'product by customer' in Zencart yet.

Considering how easy it is to install and copy a template to Zencart, if I were going to do what you've described, I'd install a separate installation of Zencart for each wedding in it's own subdirectory (/millerwedding) and give the guests a password for that site. You'd only have to style it once, and copy the template to future sites. One-product carts are pretty easy to design, anyway.

I can't believe more people aren't asking for this kind of feature. If I had a good foundation in SQL programming and PHP programming, do you think it would be feasible to add this functionality?

All I want to do is when someone clicks "Add to cart" they are prompted for a password. If they enter it right, we add to cart. If they get it wrong, they can't.
