Zen Code (function) for Query Category Tree

Hi All,

Before I reinvent the wheel, I'm looking for the Zen function or code example that will return either the entire category tree or a branch given the cat id.

What I am looking to do is being able to export chunks of my category structure to a csv file, make changes, then import back.

I figured using built-in Zen function (with tweaks) to do the export, then import via phpmyadmin....

Easy Populate exports too much data for me (100's of cats and 1000's of products).

I won't be adding or deleting, just updating.

Well,

I poked around looking at category_tree.php, categories.php and tpl_categories.php, but can't seem to figure out the correct way to generate a branch based on a parent_id.

A basic code example would be very helpful and appreciated!!
