I am adding a rotating banner script to the main page, I have tried several different ways including adding an alert which always gets triggered but the banners just does not show.

Without seeing what code you're putting where, or your URL where it's not working properly, I'm unable to help you..

Also is it possible to apply more that one define_page includes tot he main page and how is it done?

I can't offer you any assistance related to why it's not working on *your* site without seeing *your* site.
And, no, unless you write custom code to include multiple define-page segments, you can't combine more than one per page. Again, perhaps explaining in detail what exactly you're wanting to accomplish and why ... might result in recommendations of alternative approaches that might suit your needs..

Note the 3 images at the bottom of the home page I wondered If I coulde in clude those with another define_page? Or can I just use basic php includes to call them?

Yes ... there are many addon sidebox options available in the Free Addons section of this site.
