    Default Changing Hosts Question

I have two sites hosted on Dreamhost. I have since learned, after paying for an SSL, a year of hosting, and a static IP, that they do not support ZC because of security issues (the recreate sessions glitch). So I want to move to a different host.

Is it possible to change hosting for JUST the store?

    Example -
    www.appliedhappiness.org - hosted on DH
    www.appliedhappiness.org/shop - hosted elsewhere

It pisses me off that they offer ZC 1.3.8 in their 'one-click-installs' section but have this giant hole in their security with it. "No, Dreamhost, I'm not going to set it to false so my customers can browse each others' carts, and risk session IDs being linked."

If it's not possible (and I'm thinking it probably isn't), what's the best hosting company to go with for the biggest, fastest, safest setup...and preferably not a million dollars a year? Preferably on a linux system.

    Thanks,

    Blake

Sometimes, we learn things the hard way and such is the situation you are in. Unfortunately, if you want to host your Zen Cart with another Hoster you must move your Domain name.

Hosting accounts are tied to Domain names and most any script can be used with that Hosting account & Domain name. But they are definitely all connected and treated as one.

The 'one click install' is a common feature with most Hosters but it is not generally known that they should be used either for testing purpose, to see if one likes the script, or a first time install. No matter how a script is installed though, it will use whatever Security is setup at the Server level.

The Certified Hosts are very reasonably priced, and are Zencart specialists.

What do you mean? Can't I just go to wherever he (friend that opened the DH acocunt for me through his acocunt) registered the domain, login, and change the nameserver to point to the new hosting company? I mean, I shouldn't lose the domain name because I switched hosting companies, right? Or do you mean that even though I change the nameserver, the site may still not work because of where the domain was registered/tied to?

I would definitely like some more input on that.

    Thanks!

    Have a stellar afternoon!

No, your original question seemed to indicate that you wanted the root domain on one host, and the Zencart folder from that domain on another. You can't do that.

You can certainly move the domain to a new host (by changing name servers as you suggested) and then add the Zencart folder to the new host.

Stevesh, Yeah, you're right - you were answering the first question I asked. I must have just mentally checked out for a moment there.

Alright, well I think I'm gonna pick up a new host then.

Dang. Oh well. At least it's not the end of the world.
