Alternate favicon from root directory?

I am a programming ########. Really have no clue. I looked at the Tutorials and past posts but I didn't find an answer I could understand.


I have a favicon on my root site and would like to have a totally different favicon for the shopping cart (in a folder in the root site), it's a branding issue. How do I tell ZenCart to use an alternate favicon? Can I name the image something other than favicon.ico? Or place the alternate image in the shop directory? Where do I edit the ZC code and what should it say?

Thanks for any help. Please be as specific as possible, I can understand and edit instructions with code samples but am pretty useless in dealing with the go here/do this to the code variety.

What Zen Cart version?

If it's 1.3.8 then look at includes/languages/english/meta_tags.php

Make sure you save it in includes/languages/english/YOUR_TEMPLATE/meta_tags.php so you don't overwrite your core files.

Down near the bottom you can specify the location and filename of the favicon

includes/templates/template_default/common/html_header.php edit and copy to
includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/common/html_header.php

replacing YOUR_TEMPLATE with the name of your template folder.

Hello, I'm using zen cart v 1.3.9h and having trouble with this as well. I named a new one, mcm_favicon.png, uploaded to the root directory, changed the meta_tags.php in my includes/languages/english/TEMPLATE/ folder and also the meta_tag.php found in the includes/languages/english/ folder. Still showing the favicon.ico I already have in there. I have cleared my cookies and temp files. Please help!

Have you specifically turned your png into an icon? Just having an image at the right size may not be enough.

There are free online services for this.

yeah, like what Glenn said, make sure you have a working favicon:

- make sure they're 16x16 png.
- then rename mcm_favicon.png to mcm_favicon.ico

and your favicon is good to go!

Hello, I am having somewhat the same issue with "favicon". I uploaded everything perfectly right (so I think). The favicon appears on Google Chrome and Firefox, but can't seem to work with Internet Explorer, and it doesn't matter which version of IE I try, also does not make a difference if I clear my browser, cookies, etc.... It just won't show.

What can I do to get it to work with Internet Explorer, any help would be appreciated.
