New To ZC - Having Problems With Product Adds

Hi,
I am very new to ZenCart and am trying to get some guidance on issues I'm experiencing. I have read the guidelines and am diligently trying to exercise good net etiquette so let me know if I'm close or need to pay attention to certain things.
Basics:
Using ZenCart V. 1.3.8a
PHP Version 5.2.6
MYSQL 5.0.51a-SN-log

My immediate problem is on adding product and more specifically adding the product descriptions. Is there a way to add a longer Product Description. I have been severely truncating mine because I mess up the alignment of the product borders (including "pushing" the quantity box completely out of the border. I actually would like to be able to have a basic description (short version) on the smaller image and have a lengthier description when you click on the individual product and go to the larger image.
I hope this explanation was OK and will greatly appreciate any guidance you may provide.

There's a Short Description mod here that might help, although styling it is a chore.
