Pop Up box on final confirmation

How can I place a Pop Up box just before confirming and submitting the order ? Incase the customer says yes the order should be submitted other wise no.

Every now and then we get a customer who places an order but doesn't pay for it later as we ask them to pay via bank option.

To deter such customers from placing orders I want to place a pop box which states a message that in case the order is unpaid for we will delete their details etc. If the customer clicks YES place the order then the final order is submitted else he is returned to the last page he was on in the checkout process.

Is there a simple javascript way I can do this.

Yes. That can be done. You could attach a javascript alert to the button by adding an onClick function; but it would be the wrong solution.

What you're describing here is what Marketeers describe as post purchase dissonance. Some customers, having made a purchase will immediately start to worry whether or not they have done the right thing. Some may worry so much that they change their mind completely.

Adding an extra obstacle prior to purchase won't address that. In fact it may make it worse in two ways. Firstly you may increase your cart abandonment for those customers who would have paid up, and secondly you raise the temperature and worry level for those prone to post purchase dissonance, which is the opposite of what you need to do.

The correct way to address this problem is to address any concerns that may arise post purchase. Look at the wording on your confirmatory email, is it friendly and reassurance? If it's a big ticket item that they're purchasing, you might want to consider calling them to thank them for their order and assure them of your commitment to delivering it in good order and a time fashion. You might want to tell them about any guarantee that comes with the product. Even money back guarantees have been shown to have a positive effect - if people know you're confident about the product, that raises their confidence too.
