change "new" items to "old"

i've used EasyPopulate to insert over 2000 products and now they are all displayed as new.
how do i stop these products from showing in "new products" and just show those that i add later?

admin > config > maximum values > New Product Listing - Limited to ... > select from options

Alternately, set date added in the DB to an older date

so, i have to set "date added" in EasyPopulate? That's not very cool - i have some products that came to our market just a few days ago and i have to set date added let's say two months ago...

the other option is not what i want cause i want to show new products, but only those added after today...

I have a single product that I'd like to make available to only my authors. Is it possible to set it up so that this product does not circulate on the main page with the rest of the books? Also, helpful would be if I could keep the free reads from showing on the front page as well. Thanks.
