    Default Re: Customising home page

Thanks for the reply Rob, however it does not really answer my question, I basically configure my website by typing in my web url followed by /admin, this then brings me to a web page with a host of different pull down menus etc for configuring various pages etc, it also allows me to upload catagories and products, with prices, shipping info etc.

On the home it shows "congratulations you have successfully installed ...." which I cannot seem to remove, also the image at the top of the page "Powered by Zencart Your sales message goes here" I cannot seem to change that.

My hosting company is UK2.net if this helps.

    Sorry for being so dumb.

    Thanks

There are only so many things which can be changed through Admin, and that isn't one of them.

Rob's suggestion about reading through the Tutorials and FAQ is a good one. Here's one to get you started:

Thanks for the reply, however I do not have those files on my computer to change and upload them so I am at a bit of a loss how to go about it.

I can certainly find them from the file manager but cannot open them.

    Any further ideas?

    Cheers

The best way is to install a good FTP program. Filezilla is good, and I use the FireFTP plugin for Firefox.

Then, the idea is that you download the file to your local computer using the FTP program, edit it, save it, then upload it back to the server (to the proper overide folder, which you created first).

The only files you can edit through admin are the define pages.

Read through all the Tutorials/FAQ for info on all this stuff.

Then something is wrong somewhere. Any file that can be seen with your online File Mgr. can be changed; text, permissions, whatever.

But for the reasons of having a complete Backup on your personal computer as I already mentioned, I still suggest (strongly) you get used to using an FTP program.

    Hi again Rob

I managed to open the file that the tutorial suggested and changed the required text to what I wanted it to say, however when it came to saving as include/languages/ENGLISH/CUSTOM/index.php it would not let me change the file string it would only allow me to save the original string ie include/languages/ENGLISH/index.php so I saved this and now I cannot even load my home page.

You probably have more important things to do than wet nurse me however if you could throw some light on this I would appreciate it very much.

PS all I changed was the information within the single quotation marks, nothing else.

    Cheers

help question Re: Customising home page

I have tried all of the tutorials to change the front page and i get nothing. In one instance, I got a blank page. I reinstalled Zen Cart and started over and I am back to the same crossroad.

Are there any other instructions here that are foolproof and easy to implement?

    I am using the Orange template ~ Template Author : Grupa ZenCart.pl (c) 2007

    Template Version : Version 0.1

    Template Description
    Szablon ZenCart.pl.

I am using zencart version 1.3.8

I really want to get this frontpage to working. Everything else is a breeze it seems.

If you got a blank page, you likely made a mistake in the php. The instructions in the tutorials/FAQ do work.

The easiest way to work with Zen Cart is to have a copy unzipped on your computer. It doesn't have to be able to run there (although there are ways to do that), but you'll be able to see the folder/file structure and it's easier to edit files and create custom folders that way. The editor used by CPanel's file manager doesn't play well with php.

Get a good text editor like Crimson Editor or Notepad++. Get an FTP client like Filezilla. All are free downloads from the net.
