how to open a .rar file?

The title asks it pretty straightforward like. There is a download that uses the .rar instead of a tar or a zip and I have no idea on how to extract the silly thing. It's the latest scrolling new issues add-on. I tried an earlier version and it worked fine on Netscape and Firefox, but IE7 was a total washout.

Oh, and one other quick question. Is there a way to make the search random instead of repeating the same list forever?

I would suggest a good (free) Zip program like 7zip which is for any version of Windows.

The answer to your second question is no.

The answer to your first question: I always email the person who sent me a RAR and say, "Create a frickin' zip file, you moron!" But that's just me. :)

Actually, the 'rar' format is as popular in Europe as the 'zip' format is in North America.

What is used depends mostly upon what Country you come from.

The fact is: zip can be opened by windows by default, rar needs 3rd party software. But sometimes the authors just forget, I did it several times too. If you do want to contact the author, kindly ask him to consider uploading a zip file next time.

I had a 7zip once upon a time but never had the occassion to use it. It eventually found it's way into the bit bucket.

Guess it wasn't the older version of that scrolling new issues add-on after all. The one for 1.3.8a that claims to work with ie6+ doesn't work with my ie7. Mozilla and Netscape look great but the ie7 only has the names scrolling, the images are all lined up nice and pretty down the side of the page.

Has anyone else experienced the same, and if so, did you ever get it to work properly or did you give up on it (like I probably will do)?
