    Default template overide problem

    Hi
I'm trying to get my head round the template overide system. I have the zen cart book but there are only a couple of pages on it , which i have followed.

basically i have copied the classic template folder and renamed it and put it back in the template folder with the classic and default ones. I am then able to switch to this custom folder in admin, but when i view the sight there are bits missing ( eg. sideboxes) which are on the classic (which i simply copied). Please help!!

After selecting the new template you need to set up your sideboxes again - specific for the selected template.

Admin > Tools > Layout Boxes Controller

Thanks Frank. Now i want to change the text on the homepage in the new template. According to the book i need to go into includes/languages/english/index.php. i have done this but i am not sure where to save the changed file as I do not want to overwrite the original one. Do i need to set up a new folder for my changes. Also on the homepage there is a whole lot of text and images about the zencart book and i cannot see the text for this in the index.php file.

Sorry to bother you all, but I have tried the book and searched the forums.

    Thanks

There's text under the pic explaining where to change/delete
the ad on the main page.

Have you searched the FAQS for info on the template override system? This chart will help you visualize where you may place
your template folders in the ZC file structure:
    https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/i...hp?article=143

    And this one:
    https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=36

Your customized index.php file would go back to includes/languages/english/custom/index.php.

you may want to try Admin > Tools > Define Pages Editor and then select
    define_main_page.php
    from the drop down menu

First time choosing a new Template always requires this as well:

Admin > Tools > Layout Boxes Controller
    - scroll to page bottom and click 'reset' button

Also, you can use the Tutorial/FAQ link, top of this page, for more info on what you need. Search for 'override' and you should find lots of helpful information.
