Default Eliminating low-order fee for certain products

A client sells custom-made items via Zen Cart and we use the low-order fee as a "set-up fee". This works well.

The problem is that now he wants to sell some items that he will create and stock, so there's no need for the set-up fee. This feature is either off or on, so I need to find a way to provide a discount that effectively cancels the set-up fee when a customer orders only the pre-made items.

    Suggestions?

    Thanks!

What distinguishes these products from other products that can be tested for to exclude from the low order fee?

Very little, actually. They are the same products, but made and stocked in one color instead of being made to order.

Currently the only product that has a model number is the gift certificate. We could certainly apply a model number to these special items. "Seasonal-1", for example.

    Would that make it possible?

    Thanks for your assistance!

When you say "stocked in one color" vs "made to order" are you saying the "stocked in one color" does or doesn't use Attributes for the colors?

More or less what I am looking for is that the Product is an all inclusive that if ordered, that Product is not charged for the low order ...

What happens if I have 3 products in the cart and 1 is the No low order and the other 2 products are low order products and the order is below the low order amount?

Does the lower still apply in this case?

http://www.weddingheartsbyjim.com/whbjstore/ is the store site. We don't use attributes for the colors because we wanted to show more than just one product.

The problem now occurs when he wants to sell a single one-off product that will be made in advance and stocked (thus eliminating the need for a setup fee).

So, in fact, nothing uses attributes for colors.

An order for 3 low-order products and 1 standard product should generate the low-order fee.

Note: In thinking about this, we're seriously considering a separate site for these one-off products and, because there will be just one product, probably using the generic PayPal cart. It's not as elegant a solution, but it will be quick, easy, and inexpensive to implement.

That would be the easiest solution for the custom products for not low order fee ... plus if it is custom, you don't have to worry about someone else buying it ...

This could be developed for Zen Cart, but it would take quite a bit of customization as I think you need to make it so only the right person can order the custom product or that the product is well hidden from anyone else, in addition to skipping the low order fee ...
