Try clearing your SSU cache in admin, if it doesnt work, it is more likely that somehow you wiped out the config settings of SSU when you did the update.
Check admin->configuration->SSU settings and see if everything is still there.
PS: now that I read your post more carefully, you should go to your phpmyadmin, go to a table named version_tracker (or zen_version_tracker something), and EMPTY this table. Now go back to Extras->SSU Manager, and the module will be reinstalled automatically for you. Now go to admin->configuration->SSU settings to change the setting again
BTW, this is not supposed to happen when you do the upgrade, something must have gone wrong.
Also, next time post issue related to this module in its support thread, otherwise I may miss it.
