    Default Product search in admin

    Hi,

I'm having some difficulty getting meaningful product search results on the admin side.

I'm mostly getting no hits when using the search box in Admin Categories/Products. I'm searching for words contained in the title of the product and in some cases I should get dozens or even hundreds of hits but most searches are giving me no result.

I'm working with an imported database. However, doing a product search on the catalog side seems to be working fine so I don't think there's an issue with the database.

I tried searching the forums and tutorials for "search" but that isn't working out too well. Any ideas on why my searches aren't giving me the results I'm expecting?

Also, it seems like neither admin search or catalog search looks at the product's model number, is there a way to include model numbers in which product fields are searched?

    thanks,

    Ed

Well, I may have the answer. It appears that products that do not belong to a master category do not come up in search results.

I corrected this on a couple of items and those items are now searchable so I guess that's the reason.

I think I'll use the convenient bulk master category assignment routine in the price manager and see if that makes everything searchable.

There's also a reset switch in Admin->Tools->Store Manager to reset all master_categories_id for all products. Be sure to make a backup first in case it doesn't set them the way you want them.

I'm not sure where you imported your database from ... but ... whatever method you used apparently is missing a step.
You probably should also run the reset for products_price_sorter, also in the Store Manager tool, depending on whether your import tool sets that field properly or not.
