Default Ooops... modified some stuff and now need to do overrides

In my excitement to start using ZC, I jumped right in and started modifying stuff using the tutorial/faq section. My site looks good but now I have discovered the necessity of building in overrides and need to set these up. I have tried to do so, however, some of the site doesn't show properly when I view the new "template". mainly, I am not seeing any sideboxes. Any suggestions?

If you've created a new template, moved your changed files there and set it as the active template, they you will need to go to Admin > Tools > Layout Boxes Controller, and set up the sideboxes that you want for your new template.

Thanks, but I modified the defaut template (contemporary green) and after all the changes, I can't remember all the things I did. I tried to go in and build in some override directories, and did what you suggested, but not everything was there when I previewed the site. The sideboxes and some of the header were gone.

I can switch back to the "contemporary green" template and everything is there.

Do you think I should start over?

In addition to the overrides folders for your template, you will need them for your includes/languages and other files too.

    • english.php
    • header.php.
    • index.php
    • define_main_page.php
    just to name a few.

You can just make copies of the files and move them to your overrides folders!

The sideboxes have to be reset whenever a new template is used. To do this go to admin>tools>layout boxes controller and click the reset button at the bottom of the screen.

The other issues you'll have to try to figure out what you modified and duplicate those folders/files for your custom template.

This has been driving me a little nuts. I tried creating all my OR folders and copying stuff in them, including all the file you mentioned, but just couldn't get it to work. I'm missing something.

What happens if I just create an OR directory in the includes folder and copy all of the sub directories to it? Will that suffice as a backup?

Sorry about all the "questions." I am new and it just hasn't "clicked" yet.

Thanks! That is probably my whole problem. I will try it and get back with you if it works. I hope so....

You should be able top work out which files you've changed by looking at the datestamps on the files. Most FTP or local PC file viewers will allow you to sort each folder by date modified making this fairly easy. You only need the files you've changed in your template.

That would be the easiest way to tell.

Don't forget to create/edit includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/template_info.php to give your template identifying information so you'll recognize it in the admin under tools->template selection.
