help question Followed recommendations to rename admin folder - now doesn't work

I successfully installed Zen Cart on my shared hosting site with HostMySite. Yay! I could access my store using www.mysite.com/shop, and I got to the admin panel by going to www.mysite.com/shop/admin and logged in successfully.

So then I followed the recommendations here for tightening up security:
    http://www.zen-cart.com/wiki/index.p...ecommendations

I edited the admin/includes/configure.php file, changed "admin" to "myNewNAME" in the three places they said. Absoultely no typos, I'm positive. Verified that the changes were indeed in the configure.php file up on the server.

Renamed the admin folder to "myNewNAME".

    Went to www.mysite.com/shop/myNewNAME ...
I get the Hello... screen telling me I've reached that screen because either I haven't installed Zen Cart yet or there's an error in the config.

I put the original configure.php file back up on the server and name my directory back to "admin". I still have the same problem.

I AM able to access my storefront.

How do I recover from this?

I figured out what I did wrong. When I changed the admin path in configure.php, I started with a local copy. Duh. So ... that didn't have any of my setup stuff in it (database etc). So of course it's objecting.

1 Delete the /admin/includes/configure.php from the SERVER
Load your original configure.php with the /admin for the directory

    Does it work?

If so, this was probably because the permissions on the configure.php did not allow you to overwrite the file on the server so the old settings were there ...

2 Look for typos ... make sure that you have cleaned up all references and that /admin is back where it belongs ...

    Does it work?

If so ... human error ...

3 Compare all contents of the two configure.php
    /includes/configure.php
    /admin/includes/configure.php

These files are different, but they are very very similar ... make sure they match ...

    4 rename the directory /admin to /fred
Now rename it back to /admin

make sure you made no typos, did not add space(s) etc.

    Did it work?

I know, that sounds like a lame test ... but you would be amazed ...

See my second post above ...
I was able to recover. I was able to edit the admin/includes/configure.php file to put the correct info back in. I used the info that I found in includes/configure.php. Phew!

I figure it out, I don't know but from some reason I've got this error when trying to overwrite.

Response: 553 Can't open that file: Permission denied
    Error: Critical file transfer error
    Command: DELE configure.php

So I delete the file and is all ok.

Bluehost hosting account. I hope this will help others.

I have same exact problem just like other people above. I see they solved their problem but I still can't although I followed all the suggestions here. My host confirms that I did all the right things but it just won't work for some reason.
My version is 1.3.8a and I have Ceon's URL Manager installed.

Here is my website if you want to take a look at it.

Any help (including professional) will be highly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

Zen cart admin re-naming problem solved.
    Apparently it was the .htaccess file under store where we had SEO URL re-write rules. One of them was refering to the old "admin" folder name. Changing it to the new folder name put us back in business. Of course you have to apply all other basic instructions at the following link first;
