The product data is in the dbase. To RETAIN the current database, you can do the following.

    1. MAke a full backup of your existing database. Then create a NEW database via your host C-Panel console.

    2. FTP a new set of files to your server, either in a sub-directory, or just overwriting the current files.

    3. Do a new install, making sure to point ZC to the NEW database you created.

    4. When install is complete and successful, edit your two configure.php files to point to the ORIGINAL database.

    5. You may need to run the FIX CACHE KEY file (See free add ons for this file) before your store operates properly again.

The above assumes you are doing a fresh install of the SAME ZC version as your original install. Also, if you do a new install to a sub directory (as discussed in 2 above), you will need to MOVE this to your original directory level. That requires a few more steps.

    Couple of other things.

It would be advisable to make a backup of your current ZC site as well - despite the fact that's it's in a "mess" - you will over-write such things as your HTML DEFINE PAGES and several other files if you do a fresh upload of ZC to your server, where the current install lives.

After pointing your NEW install to the ORIGINAL database, you must remember that the ORIGINAL database configuration tables will make reference to the custom template you were using in the ORIGINAL site. (And many other settings besides). You may, therefore, experience some conflicts that result in blank pages displaying, or partial pages displaying, or perhaps even some screen error messages.

You may therefore need to operate the site under the CLASSIC GREEN template until you re-install (re-instate) the custom template you were using.
