Default Template Monster & Column Layout

    Hi,
I'm using a template monster template for my store & wanted to change the product display so that it is in columns instead of rows using the mod for column layout. I tried installing it, but it is not working with the template monster template. I know I have installed the mod correctly because it works when I switch it back to the default template.

Is there anything I can do so that it works with the template monster template?

"A lot of debugging" is the short answer.

I have seen variants of this problem a number of times. You're going to have to mine through the templates directory and the common directory to see where they've copy and pasted code they shouldn't have.

We should set this up as a cut and paste.

Or like one of those POW jokes where they've heard it so often they can just call out "Number six!" and get laughter in response.

In this case, it would be "TM!" and that would be sufficient.

Other than a laughing matter, I do believe that ZC devs should consider sticky this somewhere easy to notice, even in the pre-install note would be good.

It will help people to save money, tons of money, and it will force TM to come up with a solution to fix this, or they can forget about selling ZC template.
I no longer provide installation support on forum for all my modules. However, if there are real bugs with the modules please feel free to contact me

Totally agree with that suggestion. I previously setup a site using a beautiful looking Template Monster template...only to end up struggling for MONTHS getting everything working right...Plus I always would have problems when I wanted to change anything. Even worse, I did not dare to upgrade to a later version of Zencart since I knew that would destroy all of the work I had put in already (since Template Monster does not follow the proper overrides protocol of Zencart).

Recently I set up a new site using the Apple Zen template (NOT from Template Monster) and everything has been 10 times...no... 100 times easier. Plus I'll have no worries when an upgraded Zencart version is launched. This is definitely the way to go.

If anyone really wants a super beautiful looking site, don't buy a Template Monster template...instead, just use one of the tried and true standard Zencart templates and spend a week modifying the graphics and images and colors. You will end up with a beautiful website that WORKS.

Thanks for your advice. I decided to just adapt a free zen template to how I wanted it, and now it works - Yay!

From previous discussions of this subject, I believe there may have been legal considerations about appearing to "officially" disparage TM templates with a sticky post.
