cant get 2 columns to display

I am trying to get 2 columns to display ( featured products ), It was working for a few days but now the products display one on top of another. The site is not live yet.

Layout Settings is not the page to affect that.

Configuration > Index Listing >
New Products Columns per Row 3
Featured Products Columns per Row 3
Special Products Columns per Row 3

will set the number of columns for these centerboxes.

i set these all to "3" and still nothing.

I've also noticed when I click on a product and I go to the product description, the whole layout of the page has changed. I've included images of my site. The first image shows the featured products stacked on top of each other instead of side by side. In the second image I have drawn in black rectangles to show where those particular elements used to be.

You are working with the featured listing page, not the centerbox - we couldn't tell which you mean without a picture or detailed description.
Configuration > Featured Listing will let you edit the layout of the elements there.

The second image is the product listing page, which is not related to the featured listing page display.

The centerboxes display products in a grid (qty per row settable in admin). The listings display products one per row, though the elements in each product can be rearranged. There is a mod for the product listing (Column Layout Grid), but not for the other listing pages.
You can make some listings match another by applying yellow1912's "Using one single listing template" mod - search the forum for it.
