Default Fasthosts.co.uk - just searching this term brings bad news.

Yea, this is my host. Laugh it up.

Yea, I'm having SSL issues. Yea, cURL is compiled.

Yea, the PHP is going through FastCGI.

Am I [past tense of copulation]? Should I just get a different host (that's not 1&1, GoDaddy or Network Solutions) or is this situation workable?

    thanks,

    -Tim

It's a tragedy that so many people who want to go e-commerce start by finding a host, THEN look for software.

All GOOD e-commerce packages require specific server setups - ZC is no exception. Run under the proper environment, ZC is a robust, resilient and utterly reliable cart.

If you intend to be serious about e-commerce, ditch your current host and click the link above called "certified hosts".

Scream and shout loudly enough and your current host may refund you...

THANK YOU. I was completely unaware of that link being there. Holy ########, and just like that, my problems are solved for me.

Full disclosure: I came into this company recently (months) and they've been with FH for long enough that even today we're resetting passwords for domains because everybody got locked out years ago. I had no control over this.

However, it looks like we'll be staying with them for our clients, but host our own site elsewhere (yea, that looks REAL good haha)

Going to go through the certified list right now, thanks a million for that tip. I couldn't have searched that!

    Hi Tim
Agree totally with the advice. I migrated a few weeks ago to one of the certified hosts in the UK. I've had no problems since. Drop me a PM to discuss if needs be. I'm currently trying to get out of the contract with Fasthosts but will start a new thread on that subject rather than hijack this one.

SJK, please, if you want to talk ######## about Fasthosts, you are welcome to do so in any of my threads, anytime.

But, I come back bearing (for me) bad news. I did not convince the owner to switch hosts, even with my scary tales of SSL incompatibility.

He says it's fine if we only use Google Checkout on the site, and have Google do all the securing and authenticating. Is this possible?

Quite honestly, I think we've already accomplished everything we need to (except fixing the random DB timeout errors arrgg) and if I can successfully accept payments through Google on the current setup, that's good enough for me, for now.

    Thoughts?

    thanks,

    -Tim
