Need PRODUCTS & SUBCATEGORIES within the same category

Hi Zenners,

Most of our products come in a large file of 10,000-30,000 items
There are so many the only way is to just use the data / category structure from my distributor

In many cases there are PRODUCTS and SUBCATEGORIES within the same category, and this is causing problems.

e.g When I go to an offending category, rather than showing me the further subcategories, it goes to the product page of the active item in that category
If there are no active items, only inactive items, it says "There are no products to list in this category" and DOES NOT SHOW ANY SUBCATEGORIES

I realize that Zen Cart does not allow products and subcategories within the same category. I am using Zen Cart v1.3.7 is this fixed in v1.3.8a?
Is there any patch for this bug or way around?
Also as I have 10,000-30,000 products how can I find out in which categories this is happening? It takes a long time to manually check them all? If there a way to auto-search and fix?
I would prefer a bugfix to allow the existing structure to remain and be functional?

This isn't a bug. Zen Cart does not allow products and categories to be mixed on the same level.

I think this true for all professional dbase shopping cart software. Allowing the two to be combined breaks the logic of the dbase hierarchy structure.

I believe you're right about that. It's probably an apples and oranges sort of thing.

anyway the feeds I get from the world's largest distributors do have products and subcategories mixed in

What is the best way around this?

Is there a quick way to identify where this problem is occuring and quickly move products etc as there are hundreds of categories and tens of thousands of products?

I wish it could display both instead of displaying nothing where this occurs, any help on what to do now given I have feeds and updates where products/categories are mixed and it is by far easier to use this structure whereever possible?

As a guess, could EasyPopulate be set up to massage the feed and reorganize the products into a ZC-compatible category structure? If so, this could be automated for convenience.
