My Coupons Not Working

I have a problem with coupon NOT restricting customers to the categories I select in the restrictions. Instead of requiring ALL purchases toward the minimum dollar amount be from the allowed categories it requires only ONE product from the allowed categories. This means that the minimum dollar amount can be met with products from DENIED categories. For example, for a $10 off coupon on $50 purchase in category ABC a customer can get the discount by buying $49 in any category other than ABC, buy just $1 in ABC, and get the discount.

A little bit of background about my store and the coupon.

1. Ever item in my site is a linked product in two categories - for example, product XYZ is in category ABC and category 123, where 123 is a subcategory of ABC. Category ABC is just below top.
2. I have about 20 categories just below top such as ABC.
3. I want to issue a coupon that gives a discount if a certain dollar amount is spent on one category - say category ABC.
4. I make top DENY as the top restriction and then allow the categories I want. I then allow the categories I want. I have even tried to deny every category I don't want and just leave the one(s) I want. No change.

Just to reiterate, I want a coupon that does something like this: $10 off a $50 purchase in category ABC.

How can I get the coupon to require all purchases counting toward the minimum dollar amount to be from ONLY the allowed category(ies)? Could the linked products be causing the problem?

Do the Products all use the Category you want to "allow" for the Discount Coupon as their master_categories_id?

I have the same problem.

Coupon Amount: 20%

Coupon Minimum Order: 150.00

Free Shipping: Not checked.

I did a test lets say their total order 299.95. It only gives a $20.00off the total order not the percentage discount.

I don't believe any of these will help, but since we are on issues with v1.3.8, you may want to apply the Known Bug Fixes:
