Limited length for disclaimer and other define() inserts?

Is there a limit to the maximum length for text inserted through define() statements?

I've been trying to insert a comprehensive legal disclaimer for the email system but kept getting php error messages until I cut the disclaimer down below a certain size.

I haven't had chance to search through every function or setting yet, but just wondered if there was a knowledgeable experienced user out there who'd come on the problem?

Okay, instead of taking a break I decided on a few more checks.

I was getting an error message when trying to send emails from the system with a long elaborate legal disclaimer.

I thought it was the length of the disclaimer, but it turned out to be a stray "100%" in the test and the percentage sign wasn't escaped. (and \% didn't work, have to try something else, one day....)

Just edited that out the the full text works perfectly.
