New Catagory option not showing

I have followed the instruction for "How do I add a new category?"
from admin click catalog on the top menu, choose Categories/Products from the drop down menu, Click ""new category button"" - Hey that button is not on my screen!!

I only have "new product" button with drop down list containing:
5 preset options . . .

I assume the page is not loading correctly or I have changed a setting somewhere and it won't show the New Category option . .
It even has the nerve to say:
Categories: 0
Products: 7

I think I'm going blind from staring at this page . .

You need to add categories BEFORE you add any products.

I use CUBE CART on my other commerce sites.
Before I create a category for each of my 100 products I would like to ask if there is a way to have one category and have all my products listed on the left side category box when someone enters my site?

About the book . . .
Does it give/offer specific locations where visible page results can be found in the corresponding css, tpl and php files or do you still need to hunt and peck your way through the name conventions. I guess what I am asking is . . . is there a comprehensive listing of attributes and which file(s) they reside in?

The book gives much specific advice about setting up and managing your Zen Cart, but it does not go into much customizing of template files or stylesheet. That is another huge topic by itself.

A list of some of the basic selectors like body, #mainWrapper, #navColumnOne, etc. (with descriptions of the elements they affect) would be a good idea. If someone were to make up such a list, it could be put in the wiki for reference.

There is an annotated stylesheet available through this page, but the annotations describe what the properties do, not what elements the rules affect. A more useful type of annotated stylesheet would be a good project for someone to take on.
