    Default Customising home page

Hi everyone, I am very new to this and it seems a bit above me at the moment so please bear with me.

I am using zen cart via an add on to my hosting company, I would like to remove the "congratulations on dowloading zencart...." from my home page and replace it with something a little more friendly and not so confusing for my customers.

I have looked on the help pages but it asks me to change things and upload them to the server, everything I do to my site etc is done in real time online and not from my computer for me to uplaod at a later date.

    Can anyone help me please?

    Cheers

    Mick

You can use the Tutorial/FAQ link, top of this page, for more info on what you need.

As to files that need to be manually editted and uploaded, no getting around that. Besides, one should have an exact duplicate of their Hosting account on their Personal computer; in case anything goes wrong on the Hosting end of things. Many have lost their custom sites and/or databases because they neglected to have a backup.

Thanks for the reply Rob, however it does not really answer my question, I basically configure my website by typing in my web url followed by /admin, this then brings me to a web page with a host of different pull down menus etc for configuring various pages etc, it also allows me to upload catagories and products, with prices, shipping info etc.

On the home it shows "congratulations you have successfully installed ...." which I cannot seem to remove, also the image at the top of the page "Powered by Zencart Your sales message goes here" I cannot seem to change that.

My hosting company is UK2.net if this helps.

    Sorry for being so dumb.

    Thanks

There are only so many things which can be changed through Admin, and that isn't one of them.

Rob's suggestion about reading through the Tutorials and FAQ is a good one. Here's one to get you started:

Thanks for the reply, however I do not have those files on my computer to change and upload them so I am at a bit of a loss how to go about it.

I can certainly find them from the file manager but cannot open them.

    Any further ideas?

    Cheers

The best way is to install a good FTP program. Filezilla is good, and I use the FireFTP plugin for Firefox.

Then, the idea is that you download the file to your local computer using the FTP program, edit it, save it, then upload it back to the server (to the proper overide folder, which you created first).

The only files you can edit through admin are the define pages.

Read through all the Tutorials/FAQ for info on all this stuff.

Then something is wrong somewhere. Any file that can be seen with your online File Mgr. can be changed; text, permissions, whatever.

But for the reasons of having a complete Backup on your personal computer as I already mentioned, I still suggest (strongly) you get used to using an FTP program.
