UPS module not including insurance?

My store only uses UPS shipping. I want to require UPS insurance for all orders. There does not seem to be anywhere in zen cart admin where the shipping costs are broken down. During testing, the shipping costs shown in my store have always been different than the costs shown when I tested the order at UPS.com with my UPS account. I do not know why they are different.

So, is there an insurance option in the UPS shipping module? Also, can I specify the "declared value" for each product? The "declared value" is the amount I want to be insured, which is less than the retail value of the product that I am selling. I only want the insured value to be my cost as a wholesaler.

Look in the Free Software Add Ons as I believe there is an add on for Insurance ...

I actually have the insurance module installed, but USPS and UPS have different insurance rates.

Is there a way to utilize the zones and let it change depending on the type of shipping they choose?

You could clone the insurance module if it is generic and not truly based on a shipping method ...

I haven't used it the insurance module, but you can get fancy on most any code ...

The issue with the "optional" insurance module is that it adds a separate insurance charge and does it after the shipping method is chosen. What I believe eaglepg, kfs and I want is the UPS rates shown on the Shipping page to be inclusive of insurance. Not a separate line item, but one number for shipping and insurance.

What I'd like is for the UPS and USPS modules to get the insurance cost from their respective companies and include it in the shipping quote.

So you want the prices to "force" insurance to be added?

Yes. But by the word "force" is a pejorative. We're not "forcing" insurance, we're including it. We ship products with a retail value of nearly 200 USD. If it gets lost by UPS or the USPS we want to be able to send the customer another one without any trouble. When we ship we always add a declared value and get the insurance.

And yes both UPS and the USPS have lost packages of ours. We file a claim, they investigate and either find it or send us a check. Either way, we just send the customer another and everyone's happy.

Without insurance, we'd have to eat the cost of a lost article or tell the customer it's too bad, they owned it the moment it left our hands. While the latter is correct to the letter of the law, it's not very customer friendly.

So yes, I'd love it if the UPS and USPS module could extract the item total, pass it on to the shipper and have the quote include that amount of insurance.
