Default Re: Canada Post Letter Rates

    Hello Sjmills93,

Have read all of these posts and I realize they're for lettermail, but my client will definitely be needing to use boxes (clothing).
    I used this module: http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?ma...products_id=78

Canada Post Shipping module with dimension includes lettermail rates.

I have box setup as well. You can see that on page 1 (post 4) attachment.

As long as you have the box large enough. You should not have any problem.

I have setup clothing size and colour under Catalog>Product>Attribute Controller. Do you think or know - is this the area where I would be setting up attributes for weight and dimensions of the clothing items in order for the shipping module to handle the box size, weight and therefore shipping cost?
You can set up attributes for weight. For dimensions that will be in product section. Look at page 1 (post 6) attachment.

    Hi Royal

Thanks for helping. I guess I'm a bit confused, because I had read posts 4 and 6 and actually setup my CP module using your's as the example for mine.

So right now I have a CP module (same one as you used by the way) with table rates for lettermail, but on the Retailer Profile is setup for boxes.

Does this mean my rate table entries in ZenCart should be setup for parcels instead of lettermail or in addition to lettermail?

Currently have: Table rates for Canada
    0.030:0.57, 0.050:1.00, 0.100:1.22, 0.200:2.00, 0.300:2.75,0.400:3.00,0.500:3.25

Also, for the purposes of what we're trying to achieve, an accurate shipping cost - is Lettermail considered the same as Xpresspost Bubble envelopes? My client would be able to use the bubble envelopes for "thinner" items like a single t-shirt etc.

Basically, my client needs to have bubble envelopes and boxes. And based on a previous posting, it sounds like I would have to setup the bubble envelopes with the prefix of Lettermail in order for that type of packaging to be picked by the module/returned by CP.

Does the rate table need to include lettermail rates and parcel box rates? Is there another file I should be editing?

How do I handle this? Any inspiration, experience or suggestions are truly welcome!

    Thanks

    Royal

    A little more info.

After 1/2 hour on the phone with CP, I have been able to determine (you probably already know this, but it may be of value to other newbies like myself) that the shipping module should not be used for "Xpresspost Prepaid Bubble Envelopes" - the key issue here being "prepaid".

Since the module communicates with sellonline it evaluates an item based on dimensions and weight.

I will therefore have to setup non-prepaid bubble envelopes and enter them into our Retailer Profile at CP like they were boxes. For example, a standard bubble envelope is 24.5 cm long x 21.3cm wide x 2cm deep/high and its maximum weight for envelope and items being mailed is 500g.

Canada Post tells me that the shipping cost will be evaluated as "parcel post" and therefore will be cheaper than the prepaid bubble envelopes!

However, I'm still stuck then as to what to enter into the rate table. If I'm not using lettermail, should the rates I enter be the parcel rates?

Or, is this latest module (http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?ma...products_id=78) simply providing us with the ability to use lettermail if we wish by editing the options as per post 4, but it will regardless interact with sellonline to return shipping costs?

    Again, thanks.

You are correct. Well done on your information.

The rate is for Lettermail only. If you are not using Lettermail: Change"Enable Lettermail Rate: False"

    Enable CanadaPost Shipping
    True

    Enable Lettermail Rates
    False

    Max weight for Lettermail
    0.500

    Table rates for Canada
    0.300:2.75,0.500:3.25

    Table rates for USA
    0.200:3.50,0.500:7.00

    Table rates for International
    0.200:7.00,0.500:14.00

If that does not work. Leave Canada, USA, and International Blank.

Or, is this latest module (http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?ma...products_id=78) simply providing us with the ability to use lettermail if we wish by editing the options as per post 4
    Correct!

but it will regardless interact with sellonline to return shipping costs?
It will interact with sellonline Parcel Rate when Lettermail is disable.

    Hi Royal

Thanks for confirming the correct guesses and advising module updates. I have made the changes you suggested and then tried out the shopping cart!

Wow! So much fun. The module returned 3 shipping options (see attached image) - one for store pick-up, which I thought I'd leave just in case a customer decided they wanted this. Another option was the Canada Post box - which looks correct (I think), but there's a third option that says "Per Item (Best way)". Don't know what this is, however I do note under Modules>Shipping there is a "Per Item" line that right now I have not touched (see attached screen print) since I don't know what this option means.

Am I correct in assuming I should turn this Per Item option off and stick to just using the Canada Post module?

Please advise. Your help has been tremendous.

I find Zen Cart is a great product, but not having enought detailed documentation relative to all of these details does mean I find I'm guessing a lot of the time as to what I should be selecting.

Your time and effort has truly helped me work through this process.

Yes! It is so much fun.

I notice that you only have Regular Parcel show up only. Where are Xpresspost and Priority Courier.

If you click on my signature below and add a item to the cart. You will see Regular Parcel, Xpresspost and Piority Courier. For lighter item you will see the Lettermail.

Am I correct in assuming I should turn this Per Item option off and stick to just using the Canada Post module?
You are correct remove "Per Item". I do not use "Per Item" option. I use "Table Rate". Try that. It's very handy. Your client might need it if Canada Post is down. More shipping options the better.

Get the Zen Cart Book. That's what I use. It help alot.

The full table rates should be as of Jan 2010:

    Table rates for Canada
    0.030:0.57, 0.050:1.00, .1:1.22,.2:2.00,.3:2.75,.4:3.00,0.500:3.25

    Table rates for USA
    .03:1.00,.05:1.22,0.100:2.00, 0.200:3.50, 0.500:7.00

    Table rates for International
    .03:1.70,.05:2.44,0.100:4.00, 0.200:7.00, 0.500:14.00
