    Default Additional registration fields

I'd like to add some additional registration fields.

I'm comfortable with storing the data in a 2nd database table rather than upset ZenCart's regular structure but I cannot find where to add the additional HTML to capture the information, or where the PHP code validates and saves it.

Can someone point me towards this, or indeed a tutorial?

You may have noticed that there's not much information available on this subject. That's mainly because most customers balk at entering too much data.

There have been times when someone wanted to collect a customer's clothing size and Ajeh correctly pointed them to the use of attributes instead.

It might help if you told us what fields you would need and maybe we can be of more help.

I just wanted to amplify the above poster who is absolutely correct. There is a proven negative effect on sales caused the length of a form people have to fill out-- i.e. you will probably lose money by adding form fields to your checkout process. Even if the fields aren't required, it makes the form look like more work and users will shy away.

I've seen conversion experiments where just making a form look shorter, like by putting first and last name entry on the same line, was proven to increase sales. So definitely consider doing what you're trying to without adding fields to your checkout.

Now, strangely enough, one of the fields is "Clothing Size".

The concept of this site is that it is for "Members Only". My client only wants people to browse and buy if they have already registered with certain pieces of information.

So, whilst I understand the reasons for not doing this, we'd still like to try it and see if it works for us.

I think I've found the relevant pages now:

    create_account.php

I think you might want to look at the thread I was referencing before you move on.

OK, I've read that thread and I think I understand where you're coming from. And, I think it's actually a case of you not quite understanding the purpose of the additional registration data that we want to capture.

This isn't for the purposes of a registered customer placing an order for a particular item with the correct size etc. It is because we want the site to be Members Only and so that we can see what our Members are more likely to buy. This will then allow us to tailor the products to suit the membership.

Once we've gathered the data I'll be creating a report which will summarise the information for our buying department.

We're already using attributes on individual products. There is some extra information in that thread that looks particularly useful though, so thanks for pointing me towards it.
