Can I Remove Categories from Populating in Description and Keywords?

Searched all over the forums and to my knowledge this has not been answered.

I would like to remove the categories from generating into the keywords and description meta tags. Reason - My particular categories have absolutely no relevance for the tags and is skewing what I would like there. Rather than reword the categories (not practical) I would like to just remove the process that puts them there altogether.

Is the code in the modules/meta_tag.php file? and what needs to be removed?

PS - Upgrading is not an option...too many custom mods and all..
