Idea or Suggestion 8 Questions...easy ones I hope!

    Hi All,

I am new to Zen Cart, but familiar with CSS, HTML, and PHP, just to give you a background.

I have a few issues that my client wants. Here is a link to their store.

    Here are my questions:

    1. Right now I have a category of "Bracelets". I want to remove the category and have my 4 products be in the "Main Category", if you will call it that.

    1. Can I delete the breadcrumbs?

    1. Can I delete the "Products, 1 of 4, next, previous" etc..

    1. Can I rearrange the product options to go in a certain order?

    1. Can I have an error message pop up requiring them to choose an option? I want the error message to pop up if they try and add to their cart without having all the product options.

    1. I don't want to have customers register. Can I use guest checkout? Can I also disable the member login area?

    1. How can I create my own pages that appear on the right side in the "Information" box? How can I edit them?

    1. Can I delete the categories box?

That's it! Thanks for everyone's help.

    1. If that's all you want to sell, you can put those products in the 'Top' category, but you can't have both products and categories in a category, including 'Top'.

    2. Yes. Most easily done in the stylesheet - #navBreadcrumb {display:none;}

    4. If you mean attributes, there's a 'required' option, I think.

    6. Not with the stock cart. There are a couple of mods in Free Software Add Ons (above) that purport to do that.

    8. Sideboxes are turned on and off in Admin - Tools - Layout Boxes Controller.

You should be able to turn off both breadcrumb display and the display of the next/previous buttons in Admin-Config. Check the layout section for the breadcrumb options and check (I think) Product Info for next/previous display options.

I think the best method for adding items to the Information box is to turn it off and recreate each page through EZ-pages and turn on the sidebox display.

    1. You need to keep a category for the products, but you don't have to call it Bracelets, and you don't have to have the categories sidebox displayed with the one category.
As stevesh says, if you might ever want to have another category, you need this first one to hold your current products. You would have to delete all of your products before you could make a new category if the products were in Top.

    Configuration > Layout Settings >
Categories - Always Show on Main Page > set to 1
Main Page - Opens with Category > set to your category id (1)

You appear to already have this set. You can disable the categories sidebox in Tools > Layout Boxes Controller.

    2. Configuration > Layout Settings > Define Breadcrumb Status.

    3. Configuration > Product Info > Previous Next - Button and Image Status.

    4. Catalog > Option Name Manager
    and
    Catalog > Option Value Manager
Set order for each of these.

Also, you can set individual product attribute selections in:
Catalog > Attributes Controller > display a product > edit attribute > under Prices and Weights, set Order.
Give each attribute a different order number as you wish.

    5. For the dropdowns, make a new option value called "Select" or whatever, for each attribute group in the product, and set it to Default and Display Only. This will force a conscious choice. If there is one overwhelming favorite in a group, you could just set that one as Default (not display only) and it will be the default.
For text input attributes, you can use the Required setting.

    6. As stevesh says.

    7. As edadk says. It is possible to make new define pages, but takes some work.

    8. See 1 above.
