Changing font size

Okay, so I've ready the tutorial

and I've found the css style sheet that it says I need to edit to change my font size but which do I edit? I'm trying to edit the font size on my home page but I keep changing font sizes to something else, I think. Again I'm lost....

If you get the Firefox browser with the webdeveloper add on, it will allow you to tinker with the stylesheet and see the results immediately. You'll have to save your stylesheet locally and FTP it to the site to make it permanent.

I know I must change the stylesheet.css file on my computer and then upload it. That's exactly what I've been doing; however, I can't seem to figure out why none of my changes are having any effect. I've even made the simple change of background color and yet it still has no effect. I'm overwriting the file on the server but no dice....

Looking at your site, I'm not sure where some stuff is coming from. There a .style16 class that seems to be controlling the first letter of the "welcome" paragraph (which is the text I assume you want to enlarge). That .style16 may be preventing changing the size of the font in that section.

Yeah I tried everything. style19, style16, style12.... you name it. Nothing made any font size changes.

What are those supposed to do? It seems to be controlling the first character only and blocking the rest of the text from being resized. Where is that coming from. It's not in the stylesheet.

That's from the define_main_page.php file found in includes/languages/english/html_includes/classic I changed it back to style12, which as I recall was the default, but still my css page is still not changing my background color or font size?
