Well, your products are either all at the top level or are in categories. Categories are the navigation for your site, along with other pages which would be in the Information and other sideboxes. That's what the sideboxes are for.

Maybe you're concerned with the box-like appearance of the sideboxes? If so, they can be styled in any way you can imagine using the stylesheet, including making them not be in little boxes.

Or maybe you don't like the default appearance of the navigation, box or no box. In that case you can try one of the mods in the Free Software Add Ons (link at the top of this page.)

Finally, if you really don't want to use any of the built-in or add-on sideboxes that could be in the left column, you could modify the php file which is used to build the contents of the left-column so that it would show use code instead. But this would be very complex. And why bother when someone has already done all the work for you?
