Default Linux code editor w/remote file managment

I am trying to find a code (php, css, html) editor for linux that has the nice remote file management (via (s)ftp) like dreamweaver has to manage local and remote filesets without needing separate ftp app.

Not interested in WYSIWYG editor, just code with maybe nice syntax highlighting and local/remote file concept.

I have Ubuntu 8.10 on the box I'm trying to make my new workstation for coding.

I already try BlueFish, Quanta Plus and Screem. Maybe these do what I need and I'm just too stupid to find it.

Any advice or pointer very well received.

    Thanks!

You could try bluefish.openoffice.nl heard it is a cool app for linux/

Tops for the Mac is BBedit http://barebones.com/products/bbedit/

I highly recommend Aptana with the PHP add-in. This Integrated Development Environment (IDE) is coming on in leaps and bounds and leaving even PHP specialists such as Zend Studio trailing in its wake.

It has everything that I want in a PHP IDE including all the code colorisation, folding, formatting, assist, etc. and the integrated FTP tfor which you are looking. And it comes with the added benefit of forum where the Aptana staff are very active and responsive - and Zen Cart users will know how much value an active forum can add!

It has a bit of a learning curve, but that's because it's a grown up development tool, rather than just an editor.

Oh, and it's free, though for SFTP you would need the Pro version ($99)

Thanks Kuroi, I'll give that a spin. I've heard of Eclipse and this seems to be some kind of spin-off of that project.

I think even if sftp is an option for some $$, it would probably work by setting up an ssh tunnel to the server using normal tools to get the same security. There is some articles on doing that in Linux Journal magazine earlier this year.

I'm really eager to flush windows out of my shop, but I think I'll still have to keep some small windows to be able to check how things look with the MS browsers. Not a big deal if all dev is finally on Linux.

Thank you both for your input.

PS: I have the Zend IDE for windows and they won't let me trade it in for the Linux version unless I buy it again. I never really use it much anyway but is a very nice IDE.

Zend are clearly keen to move their user base over to Zend Studio, which like Aptana is based on Eclipse. If you've used Zend Studio, then you would have no problem with Aptana.
