Default How does Call For Price work?

Do you have to still set a price when you use the Call For Price option?
I'm wondering if I can use this feature for my Make Offer...
customer clicks the Call for Price (which would be changed to Make Offer), they enter the price into the text that they are willing to pay and then it gets emailed to me.... is this how this feature works or am I way offer base here?

    Thanks!

Call for Price is designed to prevent the product from being added to the shopping cart, but give the customer a message to call for a price ...

Try making a product and mark it as, Product is Call for Price YES and see how it differs from other products ...

You got me wondering about this, too. So I edited one of my disabled products to "yes" for Call for Price and then went to my store to see what happened. Both the original and the sale price were still listed, but instead of a number field and an "add to cart" button, there was a "call for price" button that went to the "contact us" screen, with no reference to the product. So the customer would have to remember what he wanted to buy and remember to make an offer; possible but awkward. You'd have to give pretty good instructions in the product description screen.

Yikes! Is there a way to link it to the product so that the email would contain the product info and then they would add in their offer in the text?
If we get this part working, how will the price be edited to what they are willing to pay? Do I manually go back in and set the price to what we agree on so it will show correctly on the invoice? I know this will not work as quickly as a regular cart with set prices (which I had also), but its still faster then grading over 30,000 comics. My 81 yr old Mom LOVES to scan them and is really quick at it, so in the long run, its faster for us AND it lets the buyer see the condition and decide for themselves what they are willing to pay for it.
This is also how I sell them now on a website for comics.
    THanks!

Not that I know of, I didn't see any kind of option switch to control that.

You can, but I prefer using coupons. Say the customer wants 3 items that you have priced at $10, $5, and $3 respectively. You agree on $8 for the first item and $1 for the last, but you don't want to discount the $5 item (it's in really gorgeous condition). If you create a coupon giving a $4 discount for a purchase of at least $18 and Email him the coupon code, that will give him the discount ONLY if he spends at least that much money (to prevent him, say, from buying the two cheaper items so he'd get a break on the $5 item you didn't want to mark down). It doesn't keep him from using the coupon on other items completely, of course, so it might not be as useful for you as it is for me, I don't have anywhere near 30K products.

Yeah, I see the missing info is a problem brought up in several threads. Someone mentioned a "Ask A Question" option that would include the product info, but haven't found out if that would work yet or HOW to get it to or if its a contribution or ?
I have about as many romance novels for one of my other stores as well, but its OsCommerce so not sure if I will attempt to have this option on it or not. I still have several more stores to make. I'm still looking for someone that can make the Home page graphic that I want with my row of village stores . Once that is done, and the rest of the stores are made, can someone PLEASE make a contribution that lets you wiggle your nose and the "shelves" are stocked?

Well, installed the Ask A Question add-on and I think this might work if I can figure out where to change the words "Ask A Question" to Make A Offer ...lol
When I tested it, the email I received included the Product Name and a link to the Product's page.
This just might be the answer I've been looking for
