Problem solved!
@Merlinpa: that is exactly what i did before and in the my store area it showed that it was turned off, but when i checked the /admin/includes/local/skip-version-check.ini i just found out that the version check was still on.

If it's off in the Admin->Configuration->My Store menu, then the .ini file setting is ignored.

Well it worked - for 5 minutes and now its slow again. In the admin area its off, in the ini file its off, i am kinda helpless i can not work. Any other ideas?

Hi Dachilla,
Did you ever get this sorted. Mine suddenly started a few weeks back and is getting so bad its almost unuseable. But only the admin area. Everything else works fine. I'm not convinced it is zen cart as my webhosts are ALWAYS changing settings and I've followed every piece of advice about switching off admin settings and optimising mysql tables but nothing works. Unfortunately the parse time does not display in the admin area so I cant check whether the delay is my browser connecting to the server or the server/zen script etc.

Hi Christian,
No i did have a few sales in there that expired early last year so I just deleted them and switched off any current sales and problem still existed.
Thanks though, I'm prepared to try anything at the moment!
