Different shipping cost for some items?

Hi,

I couldn't find anything on this so thought i'd post.

Does anyone know how to provide different shipping costs depending on the item? Some of my suppliers charge different postage rates?

Say for example I had a Dolls house that cost £7.00 to send, how do I encorpate that into my shipping?

What is your standard method of shipping for the bulk of your products?

Is there a particular criteria on the products with the different shipping cost or a rule of thumb based on:
manufacturers_id
categories_id
master_categories_id
products_module

more or less something that can be tested for to determine if and how many of these products are in the cart to adjust the shipping by?

Hi our flat rate shipping cost is £1.49 per item bought. I supply dolls houses as a catagory on our site. For us to send the dolls houses it will cost £6.49 so I have resulted in incorporating the postage in with the price at the moment.

I read an article about using the per unit shipping module to make the shipping cost but it didn't seem to work for me. I ended up with £3.00 postage (Best way) & Flat rate £1.49 (Best way). Now if I was the customer, I'd go for the £1.49.

Any Ideas?

The way the Per Unit perweightunit works is the Product Weight products_weight is multipled by the quantity and then by the Unit Charge set in the module ...

So if you enter 1.50 as the Products Weight and buy 10 of them you will get a charge of $15.00 when the Unit Charge on the Per Unit perweightunit is set to 1.00, and a charge of $30.00 when the Unit Charge is set to 2.00 ...

Be sure to set in the Configuration ... Shipping/Packaging ... the Tare Weights to 0:0 and the Maximum Weight shipped to 5000 so that they do not become part of the calculation ...
