Gift certificate problems

Background: v1.3.8a

I went through the Gift Certificate Instructions to add a Gift Certificate Category provided by Ajeh and have 3 Gift Certificate products(GIFT-100, GIFT-200 and GIFT-300). I purchased the $300 one but I did not receive an email with the redemption code, just one from PayPal and the order confirmation email from my cart. It had a link to my purchase but no other links. In checkout it shows that I have a GC balance available to me.

In my db, there was an entry for my purchase on the coupon_gv_customer table for the proper amount but no entry on the coupon_gv_queue table. In the ot_gv module, initially I had set the queue certificates to false because for our users fraud is no issue and we want them to have immediate use of the funds.

Separately, I had set up a coupon called andyfree to make some test purchases and had a minimum purchase limit of $100.

With no Redemption code at checkout I could not test my gift certificate so I manually inserted my purchase to the coupon_gv_queue table thinking that I could change the queue option in the ot_gv module to true and when the purchase was released from queue, I would get the redemption code. I received the email but still no link. (note that there is no entry on the coupon_email_track table.)

The next time through checkout no redemption code would work, so I tried to use the andyfree coupon but my balance was below the minimum I set, so I tried andyfree as the redemption code for the GC and it worked!

Questions:
1) where should the redemption code be found? it is not on the customer screen or in the My Account area.
2) why would there not be a redeem gift certificate link in my emails?
3) why did my andyfree coupon code work for the gift certificate redemption code?
4) if coupon codes are supposed to work for gift certificates, will the category and product restrictions for coupons work for GC's?

Hi,
First, I am neither a person that knows a lot about Gift Certificates nor a programmer. However, I do have one observation that may be useful. If I am reading you post correctly you indicate that you "set up a coupon called andyfree".

It is my understanding that only discount coupons can be given a "Coupon Name". Gift certificates do not have a name, but do have redemption codes.

May I suggest that in admin > Gift Certificate/Coupons you go Mail Gift Certificate. Then mail a gift certificate to a test person. See if that test person receive the email with the correct information (link etc.). Then use the test person to purchase a product.

This, I believe may at least give you some additional information about your system that may help you identify any additional problem.

Discount Coupons cannot be used on Gift Certificates ...

Make sure on the Gift Certificate Product that the Product Model starts with: GIFT

Make sure that the Gift Certificate Product is marked as a Virtual Product ...

Purchased Gift Certificates do not create a redemption code ...

If the Modules ... Order Totals ... Gift Certificates ot_gv is setup to queue the purchased GVs, they will be released and added to the customers account when you release them in the Admin ...

If the Modules ... Order Totals ... Gift Certificates ot_gv is setup to NOT queue the purchased GVs, they will be released and added to the customers account when the order is complete ...

In either case, there isn't a GV redemption code for the purchased GVs ...

Gift Certificate redemption codes are generated when you:

1 Send a Gift Certificate from the Admin to someone

2 Someone buys GVs and then sends a portion of their own balance to another person

After submitting this post, I tried using the certificate with NO code and it worked just fine.

i had a customer purchase a gift certificate via zc1.3.8a.
i released the gc to the customer via admin.
they gave the gc to their son and he is now trying to use it.

BUT...

they just printed out the order confirmation and gave it to him. which does not have the gc number on it...

where is the gc number that he has to put into zc to use his gc when checking out?

If the original customer purchased an email GV he should have received an automated gift redemption certificate by email from you. He would have then clicked on the link contained within the email for this express purpose. This would have taken him to your site and redeemed the GV.

If another person was given the email this new person would have been asked to create an account, and the gift certificate would have been validated and placed in the new person's gift account ready for use.

I believe that the original customer never received the automated email gift redemption certificate from you.

Others will need to provide you additional information as to why that email was not generated. All I can tell you is what I understand is the standard process for email GV.

Hello, I am also having some problems with my gift certificates. I recently installed them, and when someone buys a gift certificate, they get duplicate order confirmations (with different confimation numbers) are only charged once, and then there are two gift certificates waiting to be released in my admin. I've looked through the duplicate order threads but have not found any solution.

I am using an upgraded 1.3.9h
I have Ultimate SEO URLs installed, and an add a Facebook "like" button.

I was having the same problem before upgrading to 1.3.9 and I was hoping that the update would have fixed this problem. Does anyone know why this might be happening?
