Default Incomplete Search Result in Admin

    Hi,

Lastly I have been encountering problem with the Search Feature in the admin page. On occasions, I found that the search result is incomplete. By that I mean there are products missing which are supposed to be shown. For instance, when I enter "NBS-10" in the search textbox, product "NBS-101", "NBS-102", "NBS-104" would be shown but "NBS-103" is not. I tried using lowercase but to no avail. I've also verified (using other search criteria) that whether a product has attributes or not has no bearing on the search result.

Has anyone encountered the same issue? Any advise is welcome. BTW, when I search for "NBS-10" or "nbs-10" in the online store, all 4 products are shown.

    Are these:
    products_name
    products_model

what are the fields that contain this information?

How many do you see on the page when you enter:
    NBS-10

Is there perhaps another page to navigate to on the search?

    They, "NBS-10*" (where * is a wildcard), are products_model.

It's the Model col. in admin->Catalog->Categories/Product

There were only 3 items shown. However, when I key in the same search term at the online storefront, 4 items were shown.

Are you referring to the search in admin or storefront? On the admin side, the search result is shown in individual rows (I'm sure you know that, I'm merely adding this for completeness sake ) while on the storefront, these products are spread across 3 separate sub-categories.

If you were to check your products table in phpMyAdmin does the missing product have a master_categories_id set?

    Do you have Linked Products?

Hi Linda, I've checked as you suggested and found heaps of products which master_categories_id are '0' included the item that is missing in the search result. So is this the cause of the problem? If so, do you have any suggestions on how can I rectify them?

Do you know the root cause of master_categories_id being set to '0'? One possible cause that comes to mind is the easy populate mod. which I previously used to mass-upload the products.

Easy populate causes this ... I don't know if there is a fix for that ...

If you don't use Linked Products, there is a solution in the Tools ... Store Manager ...
Reset ALL Products Master Categories ID
to be used for Linked Products and Pricing: Reset
However ... if you use Linked Products, then what will happen is the lowest categories_id value will be used as the master_categories_id and this is not always correct ...

Since I do use Link Products, I suppose I'd have to manually correct those 300+ items .

Thanks very much for your kind advices Linda, I truly appreciate it.

You can use the update on the Master Categories, but you may want to go through on the Copy where you see the Multiple Categories Links Manager ...

There is a place at the bottom to set all Products in a Category to the specific categories_id for the master_categories_id ...

NOTE: backup you database before doing any of these ...
