Never had any problems with orders before but...... A customer logged in, chose items and went to checkout and Paypal. After putting in his details he was advised that the card was not accepted so 3 minutes later he changed to a different card and this was O.K. PayPal advised me that I had received payment twice. Same amount and stock items but different order numbers, but more to the point the items was taken from stock even though quite a few items only had one item to start. Now I am showing in admin a minus amount in stock. How can the system sell items when none are in stock, very confused. Anyone got any thought on this.

I can't help you with issues on the Paypal end, but perhaps I can explain how the cart allowed both orders and subtracted the stock so you ended up with a negative value...

If you have the cart configured not to allow checkout if there is insufficient stock, it won't allow checkout. However, from the cart's perspective, the second checkout process was initiated before the first order was created, so as far as the cart was concerned there was sufficent stock and it allowed checkout.

That second order processed normally, and stock was deducted - (the stock adjustment is made as part of the order creation process). Some time after that, the cart received a Paypal IPN update directly from Paypal that caused the first order to be completed (based upon the cart contents saved in the paypal sessions table). As part of that process, a new order was created and stock deducted again.
