red flag Not able to install from browser

I am doing an update to ZenCart for a friend, and I am running into a little snag. I have downloaded, configured, uploaded, and generally done everything that was called for in the instructions for updating ZenCart to the 1.3.8 and when I go to install it from the browser, I get a blank white screen. There is no error message so it would seem that the file exists and is found, but I cannot (for the life of me) figure out what is wrong.

She uses ZenCart and has a host on lunarpages.com.

    Please help.

    Mike

Blank screen issues need to be determined bu installing the Debug Error-Logging Tool - - then one can troubleshoot the cause(s)

ok. I fixed the blank screen problem by doing a rollback to the previous file structure (from backups) then re-uploaded the needed files for the upgrade, tried the browser /zc_install/ and get the "Not Found" error that follows.

    Not Found
The requested URL /zc_install/ was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
    Apache/1.3.41 Server at doggiepro.com Port 80

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

Do you have the zc_install folder and contents loaded and available?

Usually if it exists it throws an error and you are directed to remove it.

You can FTP it to the correct area from a distribution

Yes, I checked the folders and found out that the zc_install folder is in the right spot (where it was placed by the initial setup person). Further, I checked the version information and it all matches the newer update that I am trying to install.

Should the zc_install folder be located in some sub-directory that it wasn't when set up initially?

I suspect that it is not there by correct name as I see no warning about it's existance on the site(space mine)
    http ://doggiepro.com/

    and when entering

http ://doggiepro.com/zc_install this generates the 404 error.

Check and check again that it is named correctly as

zc_install or just FTP that folder from a matching distribution

    Ok,

I am just a a hard case... I tried setting the install file into another directory where it seems all the configure.php settings are pointing and I get the blank screen again... also, there is a warning on the actual site that says I should delete the zc_install file for security reasons... what does this mean?

That warning means that after you finish installing Zencart, you need to delete the entire zc_install folder for security reasons.

An error in a configure.php file shouldn't cause a blank screen.

If I were you, I'd get a fresh copy of the Zencart zip file, unzip it onto your local computer, and re-upload the zc_install folder to the remote server, in the proper place (should be in the root of your Zencart installation), and delete the one that's there.

    Thank you Stevesh,

I tried downloading a new zc_install and uploading it in the place of the old one and I still made no progress. I get the same blank white screen. I am willing to do a complete rollback again if that might help, but I am not sure if it will do anything.
