Default Re: Using GoDaddy - How do I install Zen Cart?

All this verbal commitment from GoDaddy is quite touching, but still does not escape the fact that their servers are not technically suited to efficient and reliable e-commerce hosting.

Your FIRST requirement when looking at e-commerce, is a compatible, robust and reliable hosting environment - one that will deliver efficiency for your future customers, and prevent technical failures that no amount of after-sales customer-service cooing can resolve.

It's pleasing to see that GoDaddy has started to take notice of the bad press it gets (not only on this forum), but until there is clear evidence that they are capable of providing all the critical factors necessary for professional and sophisticated e-commerce, hosting anything but a 5-page flat html site with them remains risky.

Is YOUR business success worth this risk? If so, stay with them.

    If not ...

UPDATE: It is now after 9AM and NO phone call has be received from godaddy as promised....their house is starting to fall.

I agree with you 100%, and the only reason that I am posting these updates publicly is because of promises made by GDSupport and godaddy reps.

As I mentioned, I'm all in favor in giving a 2nd chance to correct this problem, and if they can't, I expect them to tell me that. It seems that sometimes a method of letting someone know they can't accomplish something is not to respond as it seems godaddy is doing or perhaps the left had does not know what the right hand is doing.

This is the reason that I do not pay for a long term commitment up front. I stay in the "free" mode until and unless it can be proven to me that something (my site) will work the way I imagined it would work, then and only then will I spring for more pages on the host and the extras.

Yes, the ball is in their court if godaddy wants to continue my business with them. I could call but will not, except to cancel, because they made the promise of calling back. THEY are on their last chance to help these issues and THEY made the statements of calling me back at a specific time. So if THEY cannot live up to their commitments then I will figure that I don't need them as a host OR registrar.

Then I will call their 24/7 support......to cancel.

    Hey Mike...

    Why are you punishing yourself?

Just go with a proper host and consign GD to history.

I have really good experience hosting zen cart sites on godaddy.

You really want to get a dedicated IP address , the install script works like a charm and they even have direct database access which will allow you to use a product like Magnetic One store manager.

Here is a link about the direct databse access

Yes, you are right....GoDaddy support did eventually call me back, but it was several days after the date that we agreed upon.

I told GoDaddy support that due to a lack of communication I have decided to move to another webhost provider.

I did that and I'm a happy camper now.
