Order Status in Admin

A couple of questions about order status:

How long do "New orders" stay on my main admin page?

Can I select an order status that will remove them from the "New orders" admin page?

The default for "New Orders" is the display of the last 5 orders, the latest on top. As you get further orders the top-listed order moves to the #2 position, #2 goes to #3 etc until they eventually "drop off" the screen.

Thank you... our short term goal is to have 10 sales a day. Once I changed the number from "5" to "10" it looked really good on the admin page. (Lines up with the center info boxes)
