    Default Missing products from categories

    I need some help please.

I recent had my site upgraded from 1.3x to 1.54. On my old site all my products showed up and worked fine, taking orders, etc. Since upgrading I have several categories where the category title shows up by the products do not. I check in the admin section and they are all active and listed. I changed back to the stock included template to see if that was the issue and it wasn't.

I have no idea why some of the products aren't showing up any more but the category still is. Any thoughts on fixing this???

The links below are the old site which is working fine and the new site where the products are missing.

It appears that you have both products and subcategories in at least one category. That can cause some display problems. Check and see if those are the categories you're having trouble with.

The default operation of ZC is that when a category is shown, that category can either have additional subcategores *OR* product... Stevesh indicated that in comparing the two sites, he found at least one category of the old site that had *BOTH* product and additional categories.

If that were intended to remain a part of your new site and mods had been done to your old site to accomplish that, then should speak with your updater as that wasn't carried over...

OK that makes sense. Thanks for clarifiyng.

Is there a way from me to edit that in the admin so it shows up in 1 section not both?

You'll have to remove the product from the upper category. When I click on the Air, Oil and Water category, I see four products. That category also has five subcategories. Moving those four products to the appropriate subcategory should fix things.

From the admin catalog->categories/products, navigate to the categories to be modified...

If wanting to delete a category, go into the category and move/delete the product from the category (right side of the line for the product) before deleting the category.

If wanting to move a product out of a category select the move icon.
When considering deleting a product from a category, if the product is to continue to exist in the catalog, then need to evaluate whether it should be moved first or reassigned to a different category. If the product has a linked indicator (right of the status button) then before deletion need to be sure that the product's master category is not the category being deleted. One way to check/set it is to view the linked product and set/verify the master category (dropdown at top of product info page) is set to the/a category that will remain then review and save the change.

I believe (because it's been a while since doing it) that when you select to delete a linked product that you are asked about which link to delete and shown which of those is the master category. I wish I could provide more detailed steps in that regards, but unfortunately don't recall to that detail at the moment.

Once a category is empty (no sub-categories either) the category can be deleted.

Thanks for that. I have been doing that but I thought I should check the Log for issues. This is the error it is giving me:

[24-Aug-2015 13:55:38 America/Chicago] PHP Warning: Creating default object from empty value in /home/kobrawd/public_html/LOCATION_FOLDER/categories.php on line 1007

    Thoughts??

This is an issue that was supposed to have been addressed in ZC 1.5.4 based on a bug report filed a while ago. See: https://www.zen-cart.com/showthread....om-empty-value
