Downloads will not work correctly in sub-directories of the downloads folder. I have dealt with this on a couple of "digital scrap" stores and the only fix is to move them up into the downloads folder. It does mean, where multiple designers would normally have access, you will have to change to having them upload to a temp folder and then someone trusted will have to move it into the downloads folder......

    I love this
I'm not about to give them all access to the same folder because then they could delete each other's zips.
do you really want to do business with people who would do such thing, ahhhh but I have noticed in the digital scrap community these kind of things happen all of the time.....so maybe you are right to not trust them to behave like adults

red flag Re: Attributes filepaths keep disappearing

Is anyone trying to find a solution to this? Just wondering as this is a recurring problem.

Our store is set up in this manner not because we don't trust anyone but because it is easier for the designers to locate their products AND it decreases the risk of someone accidentally deleting the wrong file. If we didn't trust them, they would not be in our store.

What is the issue with the digital scrap community? It is one of the fastest growing businesses on the internet and I have not run into ANY issues with people that steal each other's files from servers. It would leave a dent in Zen Cart if they all went somewhere else for their store software. Sorry, I just found that remark rude and unnecessary.

You may sneer at the digital scrap community but it does generate a LOT of money.

    My 2 cents.....

Do the artists that have the ability to actually create their own products and attribute listings, or do you as the site owner do this for them.....

Do they have the ability to go and see the orders details?

If the answer is yes then a common upload folder shouldnt be an issue, because they already have access to the files........

the solution we advise our scrapbooking clients is to let the people upload to their seperate folders then go in and then manually move the files into the general folder......

Its an extra step, however it gives the shop owner security and piece of mind and it keeps the artists in their own little world......

We have quite a few scrapbooking sites and we hear horror stories about theft and fair use.

I dont have a prob with scrapbooking sites ( we actually spend quite a bit of $$ on scrapbooking supplies for my wife and daughter. )

They can add their own products and they add the filepaths themselves but they can not see the order details

They do not have access to the primary download folder and I'm not willing to give them access to that for the reason listed before. I am the only person that has access to that. When I set up their FTP accounts I specify /store/download/designer's name as their filepath so they can't see all the other designers products (or more importantly download them without purchasing them).

I may have to go that step since nobody has given a clear cut solution to the problem other than that.

I have had my store set up for over 8 months, all my designers upload their zips into their own folder, then I move them to another, still separate folders within the [renamed] downloads folder though and in all that time I have never had filenames disappear, *touch wood* not a single one lol

honrheart, can I double check the filenames you all are entering? You specifically mentioned /impsprovisations/ip-bunnytemplate.zip before with the / at the start, when I add my zip names I add it like this in the file box:

    sbc/sbc-wherestheloot.zip

Dunno if that would help or not LOL

Merlin, the way I have my store setup, no one has any access to the admin section but me, I have it renamed and .htaccess protected...it makes more work for me since I add all the designer's products manually to the store myself, but it's a sacrifice I am willing to make to keep the security of my store as much as I possibly can lol

So far it has worked out really well *knock on wood* lol

As for other comments here, it wouldn't matter if it was the digiscrapping world or any other, you put together ppl from different countries and different walks of like, you are bound to get conflicts, a person can be the nicest person for the longest time, but as we all know from the net AND real life, ppl can turn in an instant into someone we don't know at all....an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure :)

I am having this same problem.
But I've sold in stores with sub directories in the download folder without a problem so I find it hard to believe that's it.
Did anyone figure out how to stop this from happening without having to move the products myself?
There has to be a way or other stores wouldn't be able to do it.

All we have ever heard from the developer ( Ajeh ) is that downloads do NOT work from sub-directories.

Something we've (a bunch of store owners) have been discussing is, it seems like if you take away the permissions for the sale maker this problem stops happening. Are the salemaker and attributes linked in anyway?
